- Family DoctorsThe Faculty of Medicine has the largest family medicine residency program in Canada, with 400+ resident doctors training in urban, rural, remote and Indigenous communities across British Columbia. 95% of UBC MD grads who completed family medicine training at UBC are now practicing in B.C.
- SpecialistsSince 2000, the Faculty of Medicine has trained more than 6,200 resident doctors across 76 specialty and subspecialty programs — including cardiology, neurology, pediatrics and emergency medicine. They practice in urban and rural hospitals from British Columbia’s south coast to the far north and everywhere between.
- MD Undergraduate TrainingAt any given time, the Faculty of Medicine is training over 1,200 MD students in hospitals and clinics across the province. Over the past decade, more than 2,000 UBC MD graduates have gone on to become primary care physicians, specialists, health leaders and more.
- Health ProfessionsThe Faculty of Medicine trains health professionals in a wide range of programs, including physical and occupational therapy, midwifery, genetic counselling, audiology and speech sciences. UBC students in PT and midwifery do their training in every region of British Columbia, with over 95% choosing to practice throughout the province after graduation.
- Indigenous HealthToday, more Indigenous doctors and health professionals are graduating from UBC than ever before, supported by the Indigenous MD Admissions Pathway and other initiatives focused on health equity in education, and responsive and culturally sensitive care for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in British Columbia.
- Research and Innovation TrainingHome to 26 world-class research centres and institutes, the Faculty of Medicine provides training to the next generation of scientists and innovators in a wide array of programs. That’s 500+ graduates per year — many of whom will go on to establish themselves in B.C.’s dynamic biomedical innovation sector and help to power the Canadian economy.
